Heads up tails up Kennedy Half

#1 Unread post by pan4au »

I was coin roll hunting today and I found a 2000 Kennedy Half Dollar that is orientated with both heads and tails up. There's a lot of wear, especially around the rim. I compared it in weight with another 2000 with the same approx. wear and it was with in 1 grain of the other coin (171 grain) & (11.1 gram). Is this an error coin? some told me they thought it may be a magicians coin.. The only Magicians coins I found searching was either double heads or double tails..TIA

The reeding or edges look messed with but the images are too blurry to be sure if the coin has been hollowed out.

Interesting, but I see what Daniel is referring to in relation to the reeding being flattened. And if it was a "spy" coin you would expect the weight to be less (if it was hollow). I suppose there could be lead weights inside to get the weight up to specs to help avoid detection.
I know this isn't scientific, but does it "sound" any different when dropped on a counter top?

no it's not hollow it weighs within 1 grain of a similar 2000 half. 171 grains and 11.1 grams. Here's the worn edge.. I believe that I may have a rotated die..

:eureka:
i've seen a 90 CCW rotate,......
but not a 180,..... yet

hugeeyes
again, ..... i would need it "in hand" to verify it as a 'medallic hit' ... (full 180 rotate)

It seems like it should be a slam dunk but you'ld do well having Paul (Palh1) give it a first hand view, if that was what he was offering.
He has helped me more times than I can count with in hand reviews.

.... TY K, i gotta tell everyone here, after inspecting this one personally,
.... it's a VERY NICE fake 'medallic strike' example.....
the initial "tip off" here was the 'spooned reeding'

:eureka:
....i can 'post' some images if/when i get the O.K. from the O.P.

K, if you send me your phone # via the 'personal message' link on THIS SITE,
i will call, & "walk ya through" the images .... whistling2:
