Almost all 1983 Lincoln Cents, except for a handful, are copper plated zinc planchets and usually when you see gray or "silver" it is the zinc showing through either from a split in the plating or a plating issue, or someone damaged the coin.

The 90% copper planchets must weigh 3.11 grams, so if you coins don't weigh that then they're normal copper plated cents.

It your coin weighs 3.1g then send it to ANACS to have it authenticated and graded. You don't have to be a member and they will walk you through the process.
