Yes, as well as many other dates and mints. Here's some that have sold in the past https://coins.ha.com/c/search-results.z ... A-K-071316

Re: Rare 1970 s
It is interesting that this error (1c over 10c) occurred at all three mints!
It's not like it was a transitional year for the composition of planchets. It is very odd that this could happen at all three. What are the theories about how this may have occurred? Thanks in advance.

Re: Rare 1970 s
I don't know of any theories other than a an already struck coin got in the mix of blank planchets and was struck again by the wrong die. I think a lot of these were on purpose. It makes me wonder just how far from the truth this movie will be https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins ... tentlinks#

Re: Rare 1970 s
it's important to remember the following:
"WRONG PLANCHET" strikes, are different than.....
1. off metal
2. undersize planchets
3. thin/skinny planchets
4. different 'country' planchets
& so on......
the thing to remember here,... is the "LABEL" on the slab.
many will be correct, but have ambiguous wording,....so be careful !
i
this ALL THE TIME....
& THE 'VALUE' OF THE DIFFERENCES IS SIGNIFICANT !!
wrong planchets can/do/perhaps come from a previous run of that 'different' coinage,.....where that raw planchet was either stick in a bin/hopper/under a lip/ so on.....
& then came loose during the 'next run', of the 'differing' coinage, & was struck with that 'different die pair'.....

I was not very clear in my thinking (again!PetesPockets55 wrote:It is interesting that this error (1c over 10c) occurred at all three mints!![]()

I don't think dies from all three mints (P, D, & S) are in the same location at the same time tho.
Ah.... Ummm .... Oh well- Never mind. I just went back to HA and found it occurred in multiple years anyway, not just 1970.

Re: Rare 1970 s
one additional thing,......
watch for "struck on xyz 'THICKNESS' "
these are just "under-weight/thinner stock" of the 'proper' metal & 'planchets'....
i see sellers touting these as "wrong planchets" ALL THE TIME!
they are NOT, & there is a HUGE PREMIUM DIFFERENTIAL here
