1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.

2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.

3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.

4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.

5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.

6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.

7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Article wrote:“Before making the purchase, the employee checked the NGC website to see if the certification number and coin description matched, [and] they did.”

Manley later inspected the coin.
Buy the coin, not the holder.
It can never be stressed enough.
That said, it is nearly impossible to know the details of every type of holder and label these companies have produced over the years and the details that determine if they are real, or fake.

Instead, you must know the coin you are buying. An impulse purchase is always a gamble.

While this is information on only one of many holders, it gives a clue as to what to assess when looking at the holders to determine if they are fake:

The frightening thing is that in many places you do business there is little time to evaluate before you buy. The holder looks like an NGC holder. The thieves are getting more and more sophisticated. Wow

They are now unsealing the holders, replacing the coin inside with a lesser, or counterfeit version and then resealing them.

The TPGs are not helping in this case because the holder has been tampered with making them no longer responsible. The attitude is quickly developing that the holder means nothing, so why send them in?
