3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Hello, new to posting and semi new to coin collecting. I am a recently retired soldier who kind of got into coin collecting in a backwards way. My interests started out in gold prospecting which started in Alaska back in 2004 and continues to this day here in Alabama. I then got into buying gold as an investment which caused me to fall in love with the eagles and then it went to silver eagles, and then I participated in a coin shoot where I found a nice mercury dime and it has exploded from there. I ultimately enjoy collecting proof/mint sets and pre 1900 coins. I have one coin that has me confused. One day I went into a pawn shop and saw some slab bed Morgan's so I made a deal for $45 dollars a piece. There were two 1904O's one was a ms63 and the other a ms-64. They checked out on the pcgs website. The one I have a question about the value on is an 1880cc, it is in a pcgs slab and just says genuine. On the back it says something about a scratch on the rim. It also checks out on the pcgs web site and also gives a code of 95 which deals with severe scratches. I am just trying to figure out the value for this coin. Even though it says it is scratched I have not been able to locate the scratch and it is a very nice looking coin. Anyone have any experience with this. Thanks matt

I welcome you to the forum and thanks for your story, it's always interested in how people began to collect coins. You must share some of your gold prospecting stories!
The 1880-CC genuine still have a decent value, but does it look uncirculated like the other two? PCGS has changed since they will now place a net grade on genuine coin holders, if you when you submit, but you didn't have a choice a couple years ago.
If the coin appears AU58 or up then it's worth a re-submission to get the AU or MS details.

In the last couple years or less. You can select how you want a problem coin labeled, either genuine or genuine with a net grade.

Thanks for the information, I am not sure when it was originally submitted since I found it in a pawn shop. Now I just need to figure out if it would be worth resubmitting in the slab or breaking it out, which I have no experience doing. I will do some reading and figure out how to get a picture attached and see if you guys can get a better idea on how it might grade. I will try to get a pic uploaded tomorrow. Thanks again for the advice

It will be worth resubmitting and getting the net grade if it's near mint state, will be looking for the images.

Yes, a simple scan of the front and back would be all we need and much easier than a photograph.

here is the morgan in question, it has some wear and a scratch on the front, but it is still a very nice looking coin. just wondering if it would be worth resubmitting to try and get a grade on it.

It appears to be VG (Very Good). In this great it is best to not resubmit since it the cost would eat into it's value, even if it came back problem free.

That would depend on who, what, when and where the coin is graded. lol Yeah, it could go VG10.
