Vams

#1 Unread post by Tedwardo »

I would like to discuss Morgan dollar vams with another member who is near expert on the subject, as I am new to vams. I am also new to this site...still trying to figure out format. Don't know if I can do this by policy, but my address is $ I would also like to post a warning to members about a grading company who put me through eight months of misery with my shipment which they lost...another post. It's not against policy of this website to post your email but it's unsafe to show your email on any forum. I deleted your email for security reasons and since the board has an email function and a private message function. I know something on VAMS and use vamworld as a reference. It's great to add a Morgan Dollar collector to the forum, they're my favorite coin.

Thanks Daniel...I have been studying VAMS on VamWorld for about a month now, and the deeper I get, the more I realize how little I know....still. While going through my coins, I have made some discoveries that are quite strange, with no reference on the net. Here are two examples: 1880 S on the reverse...United States of America and Dollar, appear to have been struck 4 and 5 times. This only shows on the top of USA next to the rim, and the bottom of Dollar, next to the rim. There is what looks like five tiny steps leading down from the top of the letter to the field. Could this be a repeated machine strike? How rare is this? Another puzzle to me on several of my coins,
on the obverse...the date and stars have a "silver shadow" on the rim side, as if the date and stars slid toward the center from their original position....is this machine doubling? If not, what is it? Really appreciate your help....Ted

As always images are the number one priority when trying to figure out what's going on with coins. If you need help with images let me know. Anyway, there's triple strikes VAMS and some attributed as such and are diagnostics for certain VAMS, and the other sounds like die trails but need to see an image to be sure.

I would love to see the coins happydance: I never tire of answering questions and looking at coins.

I am having focus issues with my old Minolta F-100, so I am investing in a different new camera. John Baumgart of Variety Vamming Service has recommended two to try, so I will post some photos as soon as I become proficient with it...thanks...Tedwardo
