Hello Everyone!

#1 Unread post by Markk73 »

My name is Mark. My grandparents introduced me to collecting, when I was 5 or 6 years old. They saved their change for me, and would have me go through it and sort out different coins. Mostly it was picking out any silver that was still in circulation. They would pay me twice the face value of any silver I found in their pocket change. He also had a coin collection that his father had left to him. Not a large collection, but a few nice examples that gave me the bug. A lower grade 1916 Standing Liberty with the date only faintly visible. A common date St. Gaudens Double eagle and a few silver and gold German coins his father brought back from WW1.

I collect a number of different sets with a few decent examples, and a few lower grade key dates. I have a little everything. Large cents, Two Cent, Three cent silver, Half dime, Twenty cent. Seated, Bust, Morgan, Lincoln, Liberty Head, and a have a couple rare currency examples I lump together, as part of the collection. Those sets I am not as interested in pursuing at the moment. Can't afford to do them all.

My favorites and the sets I am more active about completing and pursuing are: Barber Quarters, 1932-64 Washington, Walking Liberty Halves, and Standing Liberty Quarters. The SQL's were my first love. I started with them as my first real "set". I continue to find myself going back to them, and becoming aware of the differences in the strikes. I want to learn more about the minting process and how to identify different varieties, errors, and overall diagnostic knowledge. I am grateful to have found this resource. I will be reviewing the different forums and becoming familiar with the site. Once I am certain I have a topic that has not been previously discussed, I hope to have enough knowledge and information that I can add to this resource, and get the answers to questions that others may be having the same difficulty I am having. Thanks!

I am excited to go check out the 2019 World Money Fair here in the Chicago area. it starts next week, and I hope to find some good resources, along with submit my latest finds for certification.
