Should I have this coin graded

#1 Unread post by Jamesgray1969 »

I'm new here and new to collecting coins. I just bought my first coin, didn't spend a ton for it but I'm not sure if I should pay to have this graded or leave it as is. My biggest concern is to whether it may have been cleaned at some point in time. I don't know if the image I took shows the coin well or not but I'll post it here and if you have an opinion please let me know. Thanks so much hope to learn a lot here

Hard to tell in these images and behind plastic but these need to grade about MS64 to be worth grading. So I don't recommend that unless you were thinking ANACS.

I was gonna grab a plastic holder today should I take a few pics when it's out. I have no clue how to tell the difference between the various ms grades but trying to read. Although I have a descent smartphone camera I still get artifacts on the image that aren't present on the coin.

Even if it isn't cleaned it is still too common to send off for grading. Submitting coins cost and a coin like this in MS can fetch around $50 so it is not recommended.

I have to agree with Daniel here.
With this 1907 date, the only way I would have the coin "graded", or, as I like to call it "encapsulated",...
:eureka:
The only way I would pay a "FEE", is if the coin were an EDS (Early Die State) & RPD (Re –Punched Date) that came in at a 64+.

In case you haven't read:

My philosophy on "Coin Grading" is as follows:
1. Authenticity
2. Preservation
3. Variety Attribution
4. Proof Designation
