79 Penny?

#1 Unread post by olbare »

1979D penny is differant then any other penny, at least to me. Its very very smooth, its thinner, it weighs 2.94g and it does not have any damage. You guys are pretty sharp from what I see, so any help will be appreciated. Thank You

The heat and action of the dryer tend to deform and "melt" the details.

I think the dryer gets a bad rap. While this is definitely PMD, you'd have to spin a coin in a dryer a multitude of times to get this effect. I've tried!

I have never tried it but it's supposed to take weeks or more in a commercial dryer.

Since it is a damaged coin then it is worth face value or two cents in copper melt.

Yep. Damage is damage.
Sort of like the value of a vintage Yugo after a roll-over on I-95.
Worth scrap value!! lol:
(Although the Yugo might be worth more after it rolls over!!)
