1862 Indian head penny counterfeit??
I picked up this coin at the Colorado springs coin convention a a couple years back from this guy who was handing out Indian heads at the end of the event. I've gotten suspicious, for it looks like it has been painted. If anyone could help, that would be much appreciated. Thanks- Curtis

The coin is badly corroded and someone cleaned it or scrubbed it.

@PALH1, the penny is 1.85cm diameter and weighs about two 2009 pennies (I didn't have a scale so I just balanced it out lol) and it is not magnetic.

Pahl is talking about the planchet alloy type and not a DDR. You have bronze and copper with certain Indian Cents. The coin is so damaged that it matters little what is it, the coppers looks off color when it has been cleaned.
