2001-P New York Washington Quarter - Mint Error, Wear, or Environment
Hello all,
I'm very new to this forum and to numismatics (just started this month). I went through some of my old pocket change and found this quarter. I won't try to use specific numismatic terms since I'm still learning. I'm referring to the dark band on the obverse which is darker than the rest of the surface (and deeper when viewed under a magnifying glass). Please is this a mint error, or just plain old wear or damage. Thank you - Leonel.
P.S. The image has not been altered in any way.

Could be struck through the planchet wash that remained on the coin and this area toned a bit. More angles might be helpful as Paul stated.

My assessment on the coin doesn't change.

Hi Paul,
Yes I did look up struck-through errors, and found different varieties; struck-through cloth, grease, thread etc. I couldn't find anything to match the pattern on my coin. I'll try to take a picture in natural light. Maybe that'll help. Thanks.
