1916 $10 gold coin
Hello everyone. Jerry here from Alabama. I have a 1916 Indian head $10 gold coin that has no mint mark. Someone has told me the mint mark was probably scratched off but I have looked at this coin under x80 magnifier and can't find any evidence of it being scratch off. Was there ever a 1916 made in another mint besides San Fresco?

Welcome!
For 1916, all eagles were struck at the San Francisco mint, where 138,500 were made.
Would like to see a photo of the coin. Could have been a plugged die. Could be a forgery.
Larson's book dealt with a professional authenticator examining 114 examples of 1916-S ten dollar gold piece, gathered at random from different collections in widely scattered locations throughout the U.S.; out of the 114 examples, 64 of them were forgeries. This was done about 25 years ago.

I would send it to ANACS to see if it's authentic. The images are not clear enough and when you take them through plastic it's even worse.

Images are just not clear enough so someone needs to see this in hand.
