1998 P Washington quarter on nickel planchet??
Hi, I'm new to this forum and looking for a little help/info. I have a quarter that I believe was struck on a nickel planchet. Its from 1998 with P mintmark. Its a little smaller/thinner than a regular quarter and has a different sound when dropped but is definitely not silver. Any information would be helpful to know if this is what I really have. Thanks in advance!

Re: 1998 P Washington quarter on nickel planchet??
Howdy and Welcome!
It would really help if we had a picture of the front and back of the coin.
The 1998-P quarter was not made with silver. It should be a sandwich of copper-nickel and copper.
If you look from the edge of the coin, can you see a copper layer?
Weight is a key factor. A nickel planchet is 5.000 g
The nickel planchet is smaller than a quarter. So, a quarter struck on a nickel planchet may not expand evenly when struck making it less round.
Even if the weight is right, you can't see a copper layer and the coin is not completely round, it may simply be someone's experiment.
