1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. 1965 penny, Is this a CUD or something else?
This seems to have been torn or something, would this be something collectors of errors would look for?

It is not a CUD. A cud a die from one part of the rim to another. It appears someone might have carved a piece off this coin then reattached with adhesive or pounded it back onto the coin. It looks similar to a lamination peel but it doesn't have the same qualities. I am leaning toward post mint damage.

With detail visible under the folded or peeled layer, it sure looks like a lamination. If someone carved or scraped back some of the copper, it wouldn't have the detail visible underneath would it?

I agree with you P. At first, I thought there was a long scratch, but even that is smoothed over and aged. The details beneath the layer showing through seem to say lamination.

Thank you for your responses, I think I shall list as laminate error or possible medaling, would that be proper?
Thank you Craig

Hello,
I would be glad to send this and others to you to look at, if you had time. I am in no hurry to list or sell them, I just want to be able to be trusted as I sell them.
Thank you Craig

It could be a struck through folded over lamination but I am not seeing the parallel lines from a split lamination layer in these images. If it is then some of it must have fallen out. The images are still a bit blurry.

I will try to focus better, trying to learn how to use this picture scope. Almost think there is a piece missing now.
