Mint error on undidentified 10 cent piece and 1900 Morgan Silver Dollar o coins
My father was a small town banker in Illinois from 1944 until 1988. During that time he collected some coins and paper money. When I was going through his collection of coins I came upon these two. The first I believe is a 10 cent silver piece. I wondered why my father would save a coin that could not be recognized from wear. Then I read about mint errors and wondered if this could account for the condition. The second is a 1900 Morgan Silver Dollar o. Again, I wondered why my father would have kept this coin that was clearly damaged. As I examined this coin, I could not understand what would have caused this type of damage. Please look the attached pictures over and if there are any questions, I will do my best to answer them. Thank you all for taking the time to read my post and help out a neophyte! Have a good day!

Unfortunately, both appear to be Post Mint Damage (PMD)

:agree: M,
i knew a few retired bankers that had similar condition coins......
they 'saved' them more for "sentimental" reasons,.... gifts, found at the bank, specific dates, so on.......

Welcome to the forum.
Ah, if only that Morgan could talk! The dent in the Morgan happened well after it was minted judging from the wear on the devices inside the dent.
If you ever watch The Antiques Roadshow, a little imagination is how the stories behind family heirlooms get started. If your father was also a gun aficionado maybe he won the Morgan in a shooting contest because the dent looks like it could have possibly come from a bullet. Maybe for a previous owner it stopped a bullet from hitting its intended target. Similar to stories of a book or bible kept in a vest pocket for easy reference that saves the owners life!
It won't make any difference and is hard to see but I think the smaller one is a half dime. It looks like "5 C." under the eagles tail feathers.
