no dates on coins

#1 Unread post by gullythumper »

My friend and I have found at least three Sacagewa dollars that have no mint dates on them. Each one has a different reverse, which I think means different mint years. Why are there no dates on these coins? There are other Sacagewa coins in the mix that do have dates. Neither of us are collectors, so we have no idea of what is going on. Can someone enlighten me as to this issue please? Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this issue

Could you post a photo of these dateless coins? That would really help us.
But, what I suspect is that you have a 2009, or later, Sacagewa dollar and the date is probably on the edge of the coin.

Will check that out tomorrow. Wow! Never heard of them putting the date on the edge. Some of the Sacagewa's we found have the date to the right of the face, where most coins have it. Why did they put it on the edge of some years?

Well, they say you can't teach an old dog new trick, but darned if they didn't do just that!! The dates are definitely on the edge. That sure defies any logic I can see. That date would be the first thing to wear off as the coin goes through any circulation. One of the three we have is so "used" the date is not visible. The other two are 2011. Thanks a lot for steering me in the right direction.
