What is it?

I'm new here and just a casual collector for the most part. Therefore, there's lots I don't know. For example this quarter I found in change. Wondering if it's just an obverse side clad missing from the rest of the coin.

This coin was turned on a lathe to remove the reverse. Another coin would be altered so that the head side remained with the rim missing. The two are then put together to create a two-headed coin.

See the seam on the "reverse" side of the coin... (two rims)

IMO, like m said, the 'reverse' was removed to make a "shell"....

these are used in a popular magic trick..."Quarter Into Nickel"

:eureka:
where a nickel is placed underneath, the quarter covered with a hanky (or whatever you choose), & you pick up the "quarter shell" with the cover, exposing the nickel.
very popular trick....
