Extra metal on top of dime.

Hi this dime was giving to me givin to me at a fast food joint .. It has extra metal on the top that doesn't look at all to be added. What is it????

On the reverse it looks like a "cud" to me. It is like the edge of the die breaks off and when the coin is struck there is nothing there and will leave a raised area like you see on your coin. Nice find, not worth much I don't think, but still a keeper at least to me.

It's a rim die break commonly called a cud because it's shaped like a wad of cud. No extra metal just this part of the die broke off and the planchet metal filled in the void. It's a nice find worth a few bucks and not bad for a change find.
