kansas quarter

#1 Unread post by okiemac »

Hello again. I have found a few of these in rolls straight from the mint. 2005 Kansas quarter. On the reverse, an indentation to the right of the bison's head. Please excuse the pic. I have a usb microscope on order!

Any ideas?

It could be a die clash mark. If you don't know what that is, forgive me if you do, it's when the dies clash without a planchet between them. Obviously this imparts design features from opposites sides on each die. So when they strike the next planchet some of these reverse design elements are struck on the obverse and often visa versa.

I did think it might have been a die clash, but I didn't know what that was exactly. So THANK YOU. That is good to know. I'm having a blast with this stuff and I love ur forum. Educational and kind to newbies!
