This is one beat up coin but I it does show what I think is die abrading, just a guess. if not what may have caused this.

Looks like a die chip. But are you saying the anomaly is hollow ? It looks filled by the pics. If it is hollow, it may have been a debris filled die.

Hey roger, I probably didn't use a good term here. I guess the hollow I was talking about was the missing material on the inside of the R. It is the same level as the face of the cent. So there is a depression in the center of the R. I just figured abraded cause of the shapes of the edge. Pennymites working on the metal. lol

I see what you're saying now Pahwa...and I'm not quite sure what could have happened. I'm not sure they could polish inside a device that small...but really don't have any other explanation.

It could have been clogged with greese, but it's unusual to see that like this.

I must be missing something. The inside of the R looks like a die chip to me. :dunno

I am lost. :l The R has a hole in it. Just a lot bigger and rough sided than it should be. It is unique for sure.

:l Roger, lest you forget, i am always lost or on my way anyways. hugeeyes
To me sometimes it is hard to see the details in the pictures and even harder to take good pics to show details. Then there are the times I can look at a pictures and relief reverses itself when the raised components are sunken. I have to close my eyes and shake my head a bit and then everything is back the way it is suppose to be. I guess it has to do with getting that last brain cell lined up just right in the vacuum behind my eyes, :l Egads, maybe the 60's and 70's were better than I remember. hugeeyes
