1967 one penny/ half dollar

#1 Unread post by jackien6 »

Can someone please tell me what I have gotten my hands on. I have never seen anything like this. It has "one Penny" on one side and "half dollar" on the other side. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum. Look at the edge closely, you might be able to see a "crease", this is the work of a person with a lot of time on their hands. It's interesting but didn't happen at the mint, so it's a novelty coin.

I am sure. I got it at the store as change. Guess someone either did not realize or did not know what to do with it. I think I will put it up and hang on to it for a while.

It is a neat find. I found a two headed nickel a while back. :l I believe these are made on a lathe. They take one coin and hollow it out that take the second and mill it down so that it fits perfectly inside of the other. I once heard that machinist do this as sort of a right of passage to see how good they are. They are sometimes made as souvenirs and sold at gift shops as "Magician" coins.
