1988D DDO
Found this one last night. There seems to be some slit splitting on the 9 in the date. There may also be some slight notching on the bottom of 1 in the date. This one is really hard to photograph. The coin is in extremely nice shape with tons of luster. I always seem to have problems photographing pennies that reflect too much.
Let me know what you guys think.

Does look like a possibility. The 8 is also thick besides the notching. Did you check coppercoins for a match ?

Re: 1988D DDO
Yea I did, but there aren't really any major die markers for the 1988D DDO that I could see. They have some listed for each, but they are extremely minor. Mine doesn't exhibit any, but it could also be a different die state that doesn't have the markers or they are less prevalent. I'm definitely going to keep it off to the side. It is in nice enough shape it might be work getting sent in for attribution or grading at some point. I wish I could photograph as well as what I can see in hand with it. I compared it with a ton of other 1988D and the tail of the 9 in definitely thicker as well as the 8's .Maineman750 wrote:Does look like a possibility. The 8 is also thick besides the notching. Re: 1988D DDO
The closest I could see was 004. You would probably be OK in sending it for attribution, I'm not sure slabbing would be worth it from what I remember on prices.

Yea the 8's seem to match nice, but the 9 seems to have more separation on mine. Then again the coin they have on the site is in worse condition so that might be why too. It doesn't have the die markers of that variety though which you think would be easily visible since this coin is in such nice shape. Another mystery one I guess. :l

Re: 1988D DDO
Yes, I'm thinking yours may be an earlier die state and better strike or condition,If you look at CC's, the seperation line is there but fainter.

All I can say is you must have some great eyes! Are you scoping them or did you see that with your naked eye?

:l Maineman hit it on the head! lol.
Cope77 I just use a 14x loupe. I might crack out the microscope every once and awhile, but usually just for photographing RPMs. It's nice that I finally found one of these. I was hoping more for the 1988D RDV, but I definitely won't complain about this coin.
Re: 1988D DDO
I looked up my archives....I think i have the same exact coin.heres the pics....and it looks like the "D" is in the same spot too.

Re: 1988D DDO
 Very nice find!
Nude, wearing only a loupe and working on brackets. Amazing, now I know what I need to do to find good coins. It is the brackets! :l
