1995D 1DO-003

#1 Unread post by Nolifeking »

Well I had some good luck tonight and manage to find this nice DD. I've had my eye on this one for awhile now since I found the major DDO for the 1995P this one makes a perfect brother to it. The only disheartening thing about it is the coin is in pretty poor shape as you can see in the last picture. I'm still happy I found it. Just would have been nice if it wasn't so beat up widegrin

Nice find! I have some 55's I need to go through maybe there will be something there. There looks like the date may be a DD as well. I have been going through a lot of coins here lately and have complied a quite a few coins I might post pics of to get opinions as o what they are. Lots of mine are like your's in very used shape. lol Still have the rolls I am working on now plus 1000+ wheaties and two bank boxes before I do the 55's, like to save the best for last (I hope).

Wow, nice find ! Too bad about the condition though...I've actually starting skipping coins in this shape just to avoid the heartbreak..but at least you have one and I don't...good for you.

I usually do skip for the less rare errors, but ones I know are really rare and worth more I would be happy to find in any condition especially when I don't have one yet. This one happened to be one of those weird circumstances with my brother too. He came over to visit me for a bit and I told him to stick around for good luck. He was just about to leave when I found it. I told him he turned out to be sorta good luck considering that I found it, but it was in poor shape! :l

Definitely post anything we you we'd love to see them. I've been taking a lot of time to work on the coin program that I'm writing, but I stopped by the bank last night and picked up $150 in pennies so I have plenty to do. I made it about half way through the first bag when I found this one.

Good luck when going through your coins. I'm sure you will find something. Make sure to check out coppercoins.com and search around a little to get an idea of which coins are the best to look at. The site has nice pictures and can help save time by showing what to look for. It's my number one error coin tool. Hope you find something great!

I have found some coins that could be DD but probably doubling. I still have a hard time telling difference though your recent find is rather easy to tell. I did find one coin that is actually listed in a book, not worth anything, but I think it is a real coin. :l (At least it sort of looks like the pic in the book.) The coins I am going through now were rolled 30 years ago mostly 60 and 70's. At least they haven't been in circulation for the last 30 and been picked over collectors. Only 9 rolls though. It is interesting seeing the tends in errors and mint problems. Like 1983 D I have found many die cracks or gouges all in the same area of the coin. It seems like '83 had lots of problems that way. I'll go through the pile and post a few. I wouldn't want to post everything I have found cause there are so many coins with what I think are errors but just don't have the experience to know if they are real DD or doubling and etc. Thanks for the link. That is a very good resource for us collectors though I did find a broken link when I clicked errors on a drop down menu. When I get time I will explore it a little better.

It sounds like you have lots of possibilities in those older rolls. I'd say just search copper coins for errors from 1960-1970 or whatever years are in the rolls. I find it easiest to sort the coins by year and mint mark and then do a search for that specific year and mint mark. This way you can easily see where to look on a coin.

I've also noticed that 1983 seemed to have lots of problems with mint errors. I haven't checked too many 1983D but I've checked plenty of P ones and I'd say a 1/3 have die cracks on them some pretty extreme ones. They also seem to have a fair number with CUD errors and die breaks.

Good luck and don't ever be afraid to post pictures of any coin you think is a mint error. We all have to start somewhere. I can assure you if you look back I posted plenty of iffy ones myself. It's how you learn.

Thanks for all the congrats guys. I have some high hopes for the rest of these bags I have to go through lets hope for a couple more 1995D DDO widegrin

I went back and checked the die cracks and I did find many more 1983 p than on the D's. Oh I have posted many pics of iffy coins already. But you are right it is the best way to learn. I'll try to post a couple more today the iffy ones that is. :l
