ERROR COIN - Wrong Planchet or Vending Test Coin? CANADIAN
This is one of kind (?) 1964 Canadian penny. This should be copper but it's nickel most likely, & is non-magnetic too. Was this coin struck using the wrong planchet, or is this maybe a 'Vending Test Coin'? Is the hole there because the Canadian Mint used that to cancel it? Anyone out there know what this is based on others coins of this type they've seen, read, or heard about? THANK YOU! -"The Scrounger"

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting this interesting coin. It should be copper but the hole wasn't caused by the mint, however, it's not important if the coin was struck on a wrong planchet. What does it weigh?
Re: ERROR COIN - Wrong Planchet or Vending Test Coin? CANADI
I don't have a scale that weights light items, so I will take it to the PO and weigh there. The wrong planchet, on 2nd thought, doesn't seems true 'cause the penny shouldn't fit so perfect, eh? What's the thought on that?

You're welcome. I meant to ask also if you can see any red inside the whole that might indicate a plating of some other metal? Of course, it could have been plated after the hole was drilled.
