1944 Steel cent???

#1 Unread post by DSCoins »

I know that the photos do not give this con any justice, yet can not get any better photos. After about 20 photos or so, these are the only two which look good enough to paste. The coins weight is 3.00 grams (1944 steel coated zinc is 2.70). The coin is also attracted by a magnet.

It is a plated bronze cent based on weight.

It looks close to that, yet I think I see copper around the edge of the coin although I can not be 100% that the edge is or is not copper as all the photos that I have attempted to take of the edge do not come out at all. With all that in mind I'm beginning to think that CaptJohn2 may be correct. The only part that gets me if it is a plated bronze coin would it be attracted by a magnet (stick to)?

By saying t is plated bronze, the Cap'n is saying you have a normal bronze cent that has been plated with a metal which will stick to a magnet.

It's plated and that can cause magnetism an actual steel cent is difficult to pry off a magnet.
