Two 1963 nickels, same error. Coincidental damage or mint error?

#1 Unread post by KBecker »

Going through a new stash last night and came across a 1963-D nickel in fair shape for its age aside from an unfortunate ding on the rim by the date. I put it aside and a minute or so later I came across a second 1963-D in similar shape, also with damage to the rim in the same spot by the date.

Is this just a coincidence (a big coincidence, but I guess it could happen), or does this suggest something happened at Denver when they were being minted?
