2006 ASE Rim Thickness Tolerances

#1 Unread post by SnyderCoins »

I have an entire roll of 2006 ASEs that have thick and thin rim sections. The entire roll has the same variability in thickness. It is enough that it is evident with the naked eye and the coins do not properly fit in the mint tube. These have been tested for authentication many ways including with a Sigma Verifier. Anyone know how common this is or what the mint tolerances are? Photos are of the same coin at different extremes of the rims. Please note this is a calibrated high precision caliper and it is only measuring the rim thickness. Any assistance is appreciated.

Photos removed as they were used on eBay. Rim Thickness varies from 2.84mm to 3.14mm.

These are considered bullion coins and mass produced, no roll of silver eagles fit into the tubes very well and always get stuck. It's completely normal.

Shout out to you stackers! It would be interesting to know the weight of those rounds with varied thickness?
