1960 Philly Penny Doubling

#1 Unread post by karl.bursa »

Me again, guys. Thanks again for your patience with my questions. I have a 1960 Philadelphia penny with some deep doubling and I'm trying to decipher if it's machine or die. Please take a look and tell me what you think! :yourock:

I'm going out on a limb here but I guess Machine Doubling not true Doubling . Nice Grade though,a few spots but a really nice coin overall .

Hey, Earle:

I think I see the double in 'WE' I zoomed in to show it a little better. Also, a little in Trust. Take a look a let me know what you think. I appreciate it! I'm probably wrong, but hey; This is how I'm going to learn!

I believe this may be Die Deterioration Doubling - not a true Doubled Die, and maybe a hint of MD on the E:

Thanks, Earle. That's what I figured. I actually have another 1960 that has the same little extra middle line in the between the first two spokes of the 'W' in 'WE", so I think Die Deterioration is probably a good call.
