Paul - 1972 Kennedy Half weighs 10.37 grams should weigh 11.34
I have calibrated my scales and reweighed this coon many times. All my other Kennedy Halves weigh correctly and I weigh this again and it weighs 10.37 grams. I read that the lowest tolerance is 10.8 and this weighs less then that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Thank you

Can you?:
Sandwich this coin between 2 of your 'normal' coins, use something to stand them up on edge, snap a picture and post here…

Re: 1972 Kennedy Half weighs 10.37 grams should weigh 11.34
TY…
It's obviously not "Thinner" than a normal coin, whereas it would have been struck from 'rolled thin stock'....
mmmmmmmmmmmmm, I'm sort of baffled here,.............
I do see a slight weakness in the strike on the reverse at K12 – K1, but that would not make up for the difference in weight here.
:dunno

Is it worth sending to PCGS and have them figure out the error?

May I ask what you're using to calibrate your scale?

There are different ways that it said and I have tried them. One was to hold down the Tare button until everything goes back to 0. And the other way is to use a coin. But every time I weigh it, it still comes out the same weight. And my other Kennedy Halves still weigh their correct weight.

I also tried my postal scale and it came up 10 grams.

Did your scale include a set of 2 different specific weights..... That are used to "Calibrate" the unit?
....... if you do not have these 2 different standardized weights, you will need to find a set to properly calibrate the scale.

Rolled on thin or thick coil stock will be worth less than the grading fees and not much collector interest. If it was struck on an incorrect planchet, one that weighed the same, you would need to have the coin examined by the mint or one of the grading services. Images will not help with this.
Re: 1972 Kennedy Half weighs 10.37 grams should weigh 11.34
It still weighs the same. 10.38grams

Paul, not sure what it should be for the 72 half. I weighed both my 72 philly and 72 Denver. The D came out at 11.37 and the philly 11.35.
PS. I used a 20gr and 50gr calibration weights.

Re: Paul - 1972 Kennedy Half weighs 10.37 grams should weigh 11.34
if he has weighted various other Kennedys and they were within normal Kennedy weight's, I would say the scale is fine. Now I found a magic coin Kennedy a couple of days ago and it weighed light. Drop the coin and drop other Kennedy's, do they sound the same? I don't know enough about Kennedy and the mint whether or not they may have been experimenting with different alloys in 1972, but there is that possibility. Counterfiet coin?
