1990 Lincoln Penny WDDR-001 help Please

#1 Unread post by BMG »

I believe I've found a 1990 WDDR-001 coin roll hunting. I have looked on PCGS, NGC, Ebay, and Coppercoins, but can't find any kind of value for it. I seem to run into a problem finding values a lot. Please point me in the right direction with this issue. Thank you!

It's important to remember that when you're searching for "Die Doubling",... significant notching, or the spread of the doubling be significant enough to be meaningful.

:eureka:
Remember that when you're using a USB microscope, you may be able to see
"micro – notching" (if in fact it's not actually a lighting issue), and that the 'Doubling' is considered insignificant.

If you can't find a sold value then it is not worth much, the known valuable doubled dies have an established value. Most don't because they're too common for a doubled die.

Ok, so the lines in the u's in the third or fourth pictures, at that magnification aren't doubling? Also, is the 1990 WDDR-001 a common doubled die? Just wondering, because I see no price at any grade anywhere. Thanks you guys!

I agree with Paul and Daniel about the doubling and value.
But to answer your question about the attribution I see some similarities around RIBUS to WDDR-001 but I don't see the die markers listed on doubleddies.com http://doubleddie.com/398701.html .
1990 1¢ WDDR-001
Description: Extra thickness shows on USA, EPU, the dots, the designer’s initials, and ONE CENT. Some separation from a spread towards the rim shows on EPU and on the upper letters in CENT especially the N and T. ONE CENT has notched upper letters and a few letters in USA are notched at the bottom.

Die Markers: Obverse: Strong die pitting can be found in the date area. Reverse: Two small die gouges can be found above the T in CENT. A die crack runs across the top of the right cornice.
I don't see signs of pitting around the date or a die crack across the top of the right cornice. It's possible yours is an earlier die state but this is one of those you will be able to tell better because you have the coin in hand.
If Wexler (doubleddies.com) wasn't struggling health wise lately, which is significantly affecting his turn around time on attributions, I would suggest sending it in to confirm just to satisfy your curiosity about the variety. A minor DDO/DDR won't have much record of a value because I think most sales are through clubs or private sales.

I'm not sure if it is possible to check with ANACS to see if any have actually been attributed and slabbed.

Really nice images by the way. Very clear and not pixelated. You've spent some time honing that skill.

Keep in mind, that there is a "Learning Curve" when using a microscope to attribute coins.

hugeeyes :eureka:
What you're seeing in the "U's" is most likely a reflection. If you change the angle of your scope, turn off the lights, and use an alternate light source, you most likely will not see this.

Also remember, that a "GRADED MS 65", on minor doubling of a Lincoln Cent, most often will have a value falling between $20 and $25.

Daniel, Paul, & Pete, thank you very much for the info. I truly am trying to learn. I'm retired and search every night trying to learn.

I will look at this again with different angles and light.

I truly appreciate all of your knowledge and time. Thank you! I hope you all have a great day!

P.S. Thank you on the photo compliment, but I have to be honest. The USB microscope does it all. LOL It's one of the best investments I've made for $40. In case anyone is interested, it's a Mustcam 5 mega pixel 1080p 10x - 300x zoom.
