1998 Jefferson Nickel w/odd imprints

#1 Unread post by Aaugust14 »

This 1998 Nickel seems to have gained some extra letters and windows and a mint mark above Jefferson’s head.

This coin has a lot of contact marks.
When contact marks happen to get near each other, our minds put them together and form shapes.

I just see a damaged coin.

Contact marks and damage will tend to be incuse (recessed) on a coin. Some can be raised as well.
Extra, raised areas can be a die anomaly which might be valuable or inconsequential.

It is hard to see if any of the items you have highlighted are raised or if all are recessed. This is one reason I agree with Mark.

One of the most likely causes of raised anomalies (not counting true varieties) are clashes between the dies.

You must watch this video and take it to heart. Very important video for you here https://youtu.be/xoaoikjvoMM

Beat up coins are just damaged and that is all they are.
