The "U" in trust looks to be North on the Obverse side of this coin, with doubling possible on the "LI" of Liberty and "7" of the date. The "M" in America North on the Reverse, with the "U" of United and the artists initials displaying possible separation also!
What do you think?
I have a second 1987d with Class IV DD, but It's doubling is not as strong on spread, nor as plentifully visible throughout the coins elements...
1987d Class IV DDO/DDR

Re: 1987d Class IV DDO/DDR
First, Class IV doubling is also known as Offset Hub Doubling, where the entire die is shifted in one direction from the center. It would not affect an individual letter. Instead, if lettering is affected, then the entire legend would be affected and notching should be evident.
Second, a quick check of reference sources indicates there are no instances known of a DDR for 1987D and two instances of a DDO for 1987D,
The first DDO is movement of the date affecting both the 9 and 7 with obvious notching at the base of each number. Which I believe is a Class II or VI.
The second DDO is rotational movement seen in the word LIBERTY and apparent in LIBE. But does not affect the date. Which I believe is a Class V.
Your coin's doubling is a plating disturbance with die deterioration as indicated by the ridge running through the entire legend on the obverse. Fairly common on zinc cents.
Additionally, the I in LIBERTY shows movement towards the rim. The U in TRUST shows movement towards the rim. When there is movement in more than one direction, that is a compound problem with the die, (eg. die deterioration with strike doubling) True doubling moves only in one direction.
