Hub Doubling/Machine Doubling

#1 Unread post by ave13co »

Can have hub Doubling and machine Doubling on the same coin? I have a 1993 D cent with what appears to be just that. Machine Doubling above Lincoln's head and hub Doubling below his chin, ear and nostrel. Will post images.

The marking over Lincoln's head appears to be a plating issue to me...JMO

Those images were clear as a bell. Posted, they look blurry. Maybe you are right. May be a plating. Issue above Lincoln's head.
Could be that I see the images on a 42 inch tv monitor before posting then see them posted on a 6 inch phone after posting?

This is a plating issue and mechanical doubling and anytime you see the part of the zinc then the plating is split. Hub doubling is more common than a doubled die from the working die since it is the hub that creates the working die. I recommend to reading the cherry pickers guide or reading Wexlers' doubled die articles on doubled dies.

I also created a video on doubled dies
