2017 p Liberty nickel

#1 Unread post by meanness »

[BBvideo=560,315][/BBvideo]Hello everyone, my name is Michael and I am somewhat new to collecting. I was given a small coin collection after a family members death and it has really got my interest. Obviously I would have liked to have gotten it a different way but such is life. My daughter and I have started looking at all change in hopes of finding something special. Hopefully the coin I'm describing might be a keeper. I have a 2017 p .Liberty nickel. It has obvious doubling on the date witch can be seen with the naked eye. On the obverse side it also has an issue with the t in Liberty which I think is a dye chip. On the reverse side it has an issue with the o n Monticello it looks to be a light doubling but could just be another dial chip. It has slight spreading of most of the letters as well as a error on the Dome. I would like to know if anyone has ran across the same errors because I have yet to see anything about both sides of the coin having issues. I would greatly appreciate any information that can help me label it. Have a good day....

Sorry about your loss and welcome to the community. People collect coins that look different but that doesn't always mean it is something collectible. I see this a lot when people bring in collections to the shop.

The nickel in the images has mechanical doubling which is not a doubled die and not worth extra, die chips and die cracks and double or "extra" rims on coins are common and add no value.

I'm sorry for your loss. Definitely not the best way to become interested in a hobby.
Welcome and thank you for the amount of detail in your questions. You explained it very well, which is half the battle in helping with an answer.
And Daniels explanation is right on target of course. Lots of years of experience and a willingness to share.
