1980 Quarter error or post mint?

#1 Unread post by Edoginlodi »

I found this 1980 quarter in my pocket change...I have included pictures. The error or damage is at the top of In Liberty. Similar but not as pronounced marks can also be seen at the bottom of 1980. Does anyone know what may have caused this. My initial thought was a mint error because the marks are all in unison snd the same width. Thsnks in advance for the help!

It's mechanical damage and more than likely caused by a counting machine wheel.

Just out of curiosity i searched 1980 D Quarters and noticed that alot of them look like this. Is there an interesting story behind why they look like this? I found about 10 of them just like this. In fact they look exactly the same...is this just the way the 1980 D looks like?

No story just caused from damage and might be some die wear issues that cause them to look like this, some this design allows for the letters to be close to the edge and look a bit rolled over.
