1984 error nickel

#1 Unread post by smurfy68 »

I am not sure how to classify this error on this 1984 nickel. It seems to be slightly thicker and with a double edge as seen in the profile picture
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Looks like a ring project to me. Edge has been spooned.

Based on some recent research, the edge view may indicate a collar not fully in place.

I am 100% confident this coin has been damaged and only looks similar to a collar die issue. The details are "mushy" and the rims are raised from the edge being messed with post mint.

That's what I thought, but there was room for doubt. Thanks, Daniel.

I was thinking the same way until I looked at the way the design was abnormal and the rims were moved to high above the surface.
