4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. Unknown Year and Unknown Error (Nickel)
Hi all,
I am new to both this forum, and to the world of coin collecting. Recently, my grandmother passed away and I am now in possession of a few coins, which seems to have sparked a newfound interest.
However, one of the coins that I have received appears to be an error coin, and although I have tried to do a bit of online research towards finding its error type and value, I am afraid that I do not possess the knowledge or experience to ascertain either without a doubt.
I thought that it might have been a uni-face strike, but, as you can see, imprints of both coin faces can be seen. Also note, the coin is in excellent shape, and doesn`t seem to have been circulated for long, if at all.
(error side)
(error side)
(Non-error side)
Thanks for any help or information!

Re: Unknown Year and Unknown Error (Nickel)
A uniface results when two planchets get fed in at the same time. Nothing is imprinted on one side.
At first, I thought capped die, but it looks wrong for that too.

Re: Unknown Year and Unknown Error (Nickel)
On the error side, the MONTICELLO is both backwards and incuse on the surface. In addition, the outline of Jefferson`s face is incuse as well. Both appear to be "pushed" into the coin surface, on the error side.

Re: Unknown Year and Unknown Error (Nickel)
from your response,.....
i would guess, without seeing the coin first hand, that, there were coins "stacked & compressed together" to create the results you see here ... JMO ... :dunno

Thank you! I wasn`t quite sure how to Embed the images correctly.
That is what I would assume also....but it is still strange that both of the coin faces appear to be indented/incused onto the same side. I still haven`t been able to find a coin like it, or find anyone that knows anything about it :dunno

Re: Unknown Year and Unknown Error (Nickel)
Struck through die cap or some call brokage strike. A coin that is struck by a die cap or by another coin on top inside the die chamber, sometimes this other coin sticks to the die and becomes a die cap and then strikes other coins. So there's different stages and this one has some die transference of the obverse as well. http://coinauctionshelp.com/struckthroughcappeddie.html
