1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Re: 1968 Nickel error
Welcome to the forum and thank you for posting! widegrin
Hey there Mark. Glad to see you out and about.
First inclination was a lamination but with the relatively smooth surface that was left behind I'm going with struck through. Laminations usually leave an uneven and striated surface behind. Would knowing the weight be of benefit for making a choice on this one?
ps. Would this also be a tilted collar strike or just struck out of collar, judging by the rim between God WE, Cliff

Re: 1968 Nickel error
I was caught up with the fragment left in the letters LIBERTY.
I don't have the scope unpacked, yet. Hopefully, soon. But, the photos blow up quite a bit. Were you needing different angles?
Nice to hear from you!

Re: 1968 Nickel error
ANACS called it a struck through. I think Paul was on the right track... The cliff is not torn at any location, but a clean edge.
Care to guess what they graded it?

Re: 1968 Nickel error
I guess MS64.
I was positive it was a strike though and thought a delam since the line is an odd shape. A delam doesn't have to be jagged but I guess it does look a bit smooth and "rounded". However, what got in the way was thin and smooth so what else could it be? It's not a feeder finger or cloth, and it was flat and almost as large as the coin. Interesting nonetheless.

Re: 1968 Nickel error
Sure hope it wasn't "Unc Details"
Because they considered it damaged.
Edit- Did you weigh it before encapsulating?
