2017 US Mint Silver Proof Set - Sacagawea

#1 Unread post by bryan.hook »

I found this while looking over my Silver Proof Set. Can anyone explain what it is?

I'm talking about the arced indentation from the top left of the blanket, to the top of the "L" in LIBERTY.

Very interesting anomaly for a proof.
The devices of IN God WE TRUST don't seem to be affected. This makes me think it happened to the planchet before it was struck. It appears to be a similar radius to the coin itself. If it was damage to the die face (gouge, collar clash, etc) I would think the letters would show the damage.
Let's see what those with experience say.
ps. I wanted to add that the full image through the holder came out very clear. Well done. This is by far the clearest image to see it once it is enlarged.
Also something (secondary vertical line?)seems to be evident to the left of the I of IN.

Hard to tell what this is, some things need a statement by the mint themselves, and some never get that. If it was on the die then it would have been raised on the die, so that doesn't seem plausible, but anomalies happen all the time and most are insignificant.

i would need to inspect this first hand.... hugeeyes

:eureka:
does the "separation line", as we'll call it:
have a difference in 'height' ?
have a 'color' difference ?
form a 'perfect arc' ?

I have some other pics of it that might show more details, but they won't load onto the page. I've tried from 2 different computers, and two different web browsers.
