1982 No P roosevelt dime (FS-10-1982-501)

#1 Unread post by PetesPockets55 »

Picked this up from the Bay last week and was wondering if any one can give me an idea of what you think the grade might be. I have limited knowledge and aptitude for clad coinage but was intrigued enough with how nice this looked to bid. (Won it by 40 cents). The same seller had another in the same auction and again yesterday but his one was by far the nicest.
Thanks for any input, Cliff

I would say MS64 to MS65. It is a nice coin and in the images it looks gem.

P,
Pretty sure it's 501. (Is the 502 the weak strike?) Comparing mine to the PCGS example here. , it has the same die crack at K-1 obverse from the hair to the rim.
I did find an image (don't know where now) of what was described as a weak strike that had the 2 blending into and becoming one with the rim.
The example I got is much nicer than quite a few on HA Auctions, even those at MS66.
So I am hopeful and plan on getting it slabbed. Just hope there hasn't been any "not-so-funny" stuff done to it.

Thanks Paul for those comparison images.
It is interesting that CONECA uses the same variety number for both the weak and strong strike but the FS# is 501 (Strong) and 502 (Weak). Is that because CONECA considers them to be from the same die, but a different stage?
BTW- the weak strike above looks the same as the image I found online before bidding so I was confident it really was a strong strike and didn't just take the sellers word for it. I also realized the weakness on the 2 and the die crack on the head was an indication of an older die.
Amazing that it is finally sinking in, the correlation between the age of a die and how nice and crisp and sharp the devices are. happydance:
Uhhh, Hello!! Finally getting somewhere lol: !
