I don't know Paul, are you thinking struck twice or doubled die. Could be doubled die, late die stage, but I don't see triple anything.

Would this be a late die state, judging by the die flow lines?
And do I see 2 short curves on the inside of the upper loop just above the center "V" or are they just die scratches?
Neat looking variety!

Re: 1953 Lincoln Cent Date ERROR ??
It looks to me like the surface of the working hub was not parallel when it struck the die face the second time (If this is even possible). I say this because it appears the surface plane of the two strikes look to intersect at the blurry area of the bottom loop of the 3. (Just above the center point of the bottom loop). Maybe its just my tired eyes! hugeeyes
I'm thinking the area/image to the right of the center of the 3 might be from die abrasion/polishing or Mechanical/Machine Doubling. Hope this makes sense & I'm not out in left field somewhere! lol:

At first I was thinking worn die because it flows toward the perimeter, but when you cleaned it, the striation lines sealed it MD. The loose die moved at the strike in the area of upset. MD aka Strike Doubling.

It looks more like what used to be called abraded die doubling but should be die deterioration doubling since strike doubling is flat and shelf like and has sharper edges and flow lines.

I agree, depending on which pic you're looking at, it looks like Die Deterioration Doubling (thick, mushy, towards the rim, sometimes with separation). Other pics look more like MD (with striation lines at edge, flat, shelf-like, follows the device, on both sides with a triple strike). To me the first picks look like MD and the last ones look like DDD. Judging from the flow lines you're probably right Daniel.
