Extra feathers
I found this coin in the 90s with 2 Extra feathers .They appear to be stacked and rounded sorry for the side view pic not easy an easy pic to achieve in focus . I also tried to join the FB forum to auction coins just waiting on approval and I sent a email to the help email address for some extra help .I haven't bought or sold on ebay since 2005 but I did set up a new account in 2015 and just got paypal approved a little more tedious in 2017 .Thanks guys

Re: Extra feathers
Is that part of the clash on the obverse above the
ribbon in his hair?
Also some thing on the rim above last A in AMERICA. Not sure if that would be a possible broken collar die or a chip/cud?

Re: Extra feathers
It looks like clash marks to me and would be part of the ribbon or hair area, but they tried to polish them off so they're not bold or well formed.
Re: Extra feathers
I had a fly fishing tool that's brass to grip the coin and flipped it. The reverse side was in the lip area just bellow the nose not sure if a clash mark looks like these two . As to the rim area above the A there is a chip taken out of the rim teeth area there that caused the indent towards the A . That could have been the extra metal that is now the feather look I see . thanks guys . I have a 60x loop ordered hoping to see more details in my coins with it.

Re: Extra feathers
The problem is the clash mark has been modified by a mint employee trying to remove it, this was only part of a die wide clash on both sides, this is just what's left. It is not extra metal nor feathers, extra metal is a completely different part of the process and doesn't take on the shape of design features and isn't raised of the surface. Anything raised on the coin was incuse into the die face, so this area was incuse when the die struck the coin and the planchet metal filled this shallow and tiny void.NavyGuy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2017 8:34 pm I had a fly fishing tool that's brass to grip the coin and flipped it. This "nose" clash mark was not completely removed from the die and you're seeing what is left.
