Dissapointing mint bag

#1 Unread post by Mms029 »

Hi my name is Michelle and I'm new to the forum. I got into looking at quarters rolling my fiancées $300 in change! I got a Wisconsin 2004 D mint bag for my birthday. The majority of the cons have a cloudy coating that washes off (obverse photo 2 coins, 1 reg, 1 cloudy) or a gold tint that I haven't tried to wash off. See below. My ?'s are 1) why doesn't the Mint send rolls? My mint quarters are already blemished. 2) Also I have noted a small crescent shaped depression on roughly a dozen of these coins(picture 3). 6 out of 100. I didn't find anything in the literature about that. Any ideas? 3) Is the gold tinted photo an off center strike or a collar error? To what degree off would it need to be to be significant? I appreciate your help and knowledge!

1) Not sure why you think the US Mint doesn't sell rolls of coins.

2) Are all 6 of 100 coins with the crescent in the same place and shape?

3) The gold tinted coin, (middle photo?) appears well centered. If the other side is not as centered, it may be a misaligned die, but it would have to be significant to be of any note.

Good questions!
It helps if both sides of the whole coin are displayed. And, when you put more than one coin in a question, it becomes difficult to determine which front and back go together.

If the coins are in a mint bag and have a film then they might have been exposed to humidity and that would also cause the golden toning. The shape of the toning would be from other coins being against the coin and protecting them from the "moisture".

The little shape on the Wisconsin is too blurry to make out; could you post a better image? Thanks.

It is better to start a topic for each coin with a clear title and then a description, with clear front and back images of the coin.

Welcome to the forum you posted some great questions!
