1982 cent/ Cud or?
Hi Everyone, Can't tell if this is a die break or what is happening here. The area along the rim looks to be raised like from a broken die but it's hard to tell whats going on! Any Thoughts Here? Thanks All...

Re: 1982 cent/ Cud or?
At first I was thinking lamination issue but the more I look at it, I'm leaning towards die crack (cud?). Where the area in question below the date is following along the rim, the metal is incuse (not recessed) which leads me to believe the die in this area broke away and allowed the metal to flow up & above the field. What is throwing me off is the ragged edge/valley between the field and the incuse area. That might be lamination but it is odd the two would be together.

Have an image of the other side? Could be a collar die issue during the strike and subsequently causing some issue with the plating.

Re: 1982 cent/ Cud or?
Thanks Paul1. Still don't know what your saying. So is the hammer Die striking the Collar causing the die to chip off causing a Cud, or is there a problem with the angle of the strike causing the raised area? MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!

Re: 1982 cent/ Cud or?
It's not a cud, a cud is a rim to rim die break, the collar die struck the rim of this coin at the wrong angle and caused this "damage" to the planchet.
