1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. 1859 Indian Head Cent with PM Stamps Help
I recently bought a coin/paper currency collection from an estate auction and I've been searching through it in my spare time so I will share any interesting things I find. As i was going through the Indian Head cents, I found a 1859 with a post mint stamp "N.H.L" on the Obverse and "1885" on the reverse. Did the National Hockey League give these out in 1885? :l I will attach a few pics, and could anyone tell me if this is a DDR or something different?

It's common Longacre doubling that the designer used on the coin's die cavity edges and some believe it was to impart a better strike. I do like the counterstamps on this one.

Thanks for the info on the ddo Daniel, I couldn't find any info concerning the counterstamps so I'm not sure where to look at this point. I guess that's one way to permanently identify your coin. "National Historic Landmark" is one that comes to mind. The Carson city mint stopped running in 1885 for a couple years so maybe I'll pick up there with extended research.

This is NOT a DDO but a purposeful modification to the die cavity and it's common on most coins design by Longacre. The counterstamp did not happen at the mint and usually lessens the value of a coin unless it can be identified as something or someone famous.

My apologies Daniel, I misspoke on the ddo, I realize it's not and yes I think it would be interesting if I could locate info on the person/ organization who had it counter stamped and if there are any more of them out there so I at least am able to put a story behind the history. I was hoping that with all the members here someone might have seen or heard something similar being done and it's not just an isolated incident. I keep coming up empty on the web, maybe I'll have to go retro and hit the public library.

What about the National Hockey League 1885? I don't know either but having a date makes it more interesting.
