1997 P Washington quarter error?
I am a newbie so please be patient with me :-). I am trying to find out what kind or error (if it's an error) I found on reverse side of a 1997 P Quarter. It looks like either an arrow pointing up or another leaf pointing up over the left side of the perch. I was trying to take pictures so you could see them so the coin is rotated, but looking at it straight on it's definitely pointing up.
Thanks
As an edit, the coin is not indented, I was trying to take pictures through a magnifying glass (mainly because I am blind lol) and it made the part magnified look indented. I am adding photo's with a circle around the area that in real life is pretty obvious. This is first time to try to upload anything here so sorry for bad pics.
Thanks

Thanks for reply- I am so green yet, but after a long time of searching, this does look like something to me. Now how to find out if it is. I added another pic and circled it. Now have to figure out how to find out if it is something worth while.

I would agree that this is a clash mark. I would say the line just below the eye.

after looking at your 'added pic',....i'll go with "a very small light minor insignificant no premium clash"

If we could find a half or whole roll that looked just like that then it would be considered a variety. So I say keep it since this can't be the only one.

Just curious what is up with "STATES" in the motto. It looks "scrunched" and distorted. Appears to possibly be struck twice and offset. If it is not a clash, is there any chance it could be an eagle talon out of place? The extra device above the arrows has a similar shape.

Re: 1997 P Washington quarter error?
We need an image of the entire coin, front, back and rim to comment in the UNITED.
The clash mark is not the same shape as the talon.
The reason the shape is not readily identifiable is that when a clash happens and the mint discovers it they file the clash marks off the die. Sometimes they miss some of it and what ever is left has been filed or is just a part of the shape it once was.
So this is part of the design that was left or missed from the die clash.

Re: 1997 P Washington quarter error?
It gets blurry when it is enlarged. But it might be a die chip?

Here's how to post an image viewtopic.php?f=80&t=12024
These minor die clashes don't add much value to a coin, but they're nice to keep as study pieces.

I have a quarter with the exact same thing...1997 p with extra leaf above branch. Mine also has something wrong with the tail feathers above the branch...like something missing.

Which coin in the last three pages are we talking about?
Okay, I looked at them all and they all have 8 tail feathers.
I think Paul called it on page one... a die clash.
