2012 Hawaii volcanos very light

#1 Unread post by KittyKatKoins »

Another find. Hawaii volcanos quarter, very lightly stamped with a satin finish, all designs are there but very light, no depth on both sides, again, can't find much information on it and any help welcome. (recommended reading, etc.)

I think I finally got one to look right. I put a regular quarter in the same one so all can see the difference.

Images are not good enough, sorry, but this could be a Satin Finish from a mint set. The mint started doing that in 2005 for all mint sets and they look a bit grainy.

This is pretty much what the quarter looks like, light stamp, no depth and looks to have a satin type finish, if you look at it sideways next to another quarter, the images on the Hawaii quarter almost disappear. I thought mint sets were suppose to be of better image then pocket change? And seems I have two of these. New series?

Is this possibly just the new quarter design? I know the earlier state quarters had a deeper looking design on the obverse. The newer ones all look shallower to me. The "normal" quarter looks to be a state quarter and would demonstrate this fact.

Well, we need better images anyway, so difficult to tell what's going on in the first place.

I put the normal quarter in there to show the difference. I know that this one is different as I have a "regular" Hawaii volcano quarter in my state quarter and beyond collection. I appreciate all the input on this. Thanks all.

We know it's different as well but it would help to see better images. We look at coins and attribute errors and varieties and use microscopes to map them out. So blurry and small images puts us at a huge disadvantage.
