1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). 1893 Columbian Expo Commemorative DDO/RPD
The Columbian Expo Commemorative was minted for the Chicago World’s fair to open in 1892. Construction delays pushed back the Fair opening to May 1893. So re-minting of this coin with the ’93 date, is why there are 2 years here.
Were some of the masters dated ‘18’, & some with ‘no date’?? There is a known cataloged RPD for the ’93, the FS-c50-1893-301. These -301 RPD’s have a minor Re-Punch South on the ‘93’.
This coin shows the following:
1. Clear easy to see wide (larger than the ‘93’) Class 5 Pivoted Doubling K1 on the ‘18’, with a slight SW direction. Or…
2. Entire date is Class 5 Doubled to K1, increasing right to left SW. &…
3. The 3 is Re-Punched (touched up) like a Class 8 Tilted, to coin center, SW.
:eureka:
SPECIAL NOTE HERE: Collectors MUST LEARN that NON-EDS* coins like this LEDS** Stage B coin, exhibit Device Fracture Blending***, & you must look very closely from ALL ANGLES.
*early die state
**late early die state
***die-face wear from repetitive striking, resulting in the loss of ‘crispy-ness’ in the device edge details.

Re: 1893 Columbian Expo Commemorative DDO/RPD
Came across looking through old threads. Congratulations Paul.
I realize they get the grade wrong a lot but what was the grade on the label?
(Knowing your preference for collecting high grades, is it as high as MS66?)
