:eureka:
keep in mind that coins showing a 'loss of detail' in certian areas, may just be "heavy rub", a.k.a. 'circulation wear', even "die wear", & most likely "common die plugging".....or a combination of these. the flying eagle cents are a good example of this. i see coins that are called "grease filled die" all the time that are nothing more than circulation wear with plugging. in general, you will not find grease filled dies on coins that are not early die state.
:eureka:
die rotation can be an indication of clashing.....where the die(s) were reinstalled a bit off, rotated, after polishing.

You must also consider the adjustment of the die for striking pressure. The N's on the cent's reverses can often be found with weakness because the obverse if higher relief and the dies had to be adjusted properly for both sides to strike all the details. Sometimes this did not happen perfectly but enough to pass QC.

I see this area of Lincoln Cents as poorly struck as well and the obverse side does correspond with a high point of the bust.

:eureka:
i did not 'get into it'...but there are 3 different reverses for the IC...
just as there are 3 different obverse indian designs...

modern day collectors might heed the old phrase..."buy the book before you buy the coin,.....&, buy the coin, not the slab"
