COIN GRADING FACTS:
NGC Reports a ‘graded’ population of ≈27 million in 3/13, & 30 million in 4/14
3 million ‘graded’ coins in 13 months // 3m ÷ 13 = 230,770 coins/mo.
230,770 ÷ 30 days/mo. = 7692 coins/day
7692 ÷ 8 hr./day = 961 coins/hr. (idealistic)
961 ÷ 60 min./hr. = 16 coins/min.(idealistic)
________________________________________
30 “Full Time” graders employed. Assuming a 100% 30 grader/day work force….
7692 coins/day ÷ 30 graders = 256 coins/grader/day (whew!)
8 hour work day: 15 min. am break, 15 min. pm break, & a 1 hr. lunch = 6.5 hrs. of “actual work time”
256 ÷ 6.5 hrs. ≈ 40 coins/hr.
40 ÷ 60 min./hr. = 1.5 min./coin, or 90 seconds (idealistic)
________________________________________
These numbers represent that you never leave your seat, coins are delivered to/taken from your work station, you speak to no one, you have absolutely no distractions, everything flows ‘robotic smoothly’, & you are ‘head down’ grading 100% of the time (non-realistic).
90 SECOND BREAKDOWN: picking up the coin in its insert, handling it (not inspecting it), checking the ‘submit form’, & returning it to the ‘caddy’….say ≈ 20 seconds. Time keying/entering info your computer, including ‘notes’ & ‘printing the label’….say ≈ 60 seconds. This leaves, by the numbers, 10 seconds to “grade your coin”. Realistically this is only 4-5 seconds…..NOT USING A LOUPE!... (which a vast majority do not use….WAY TO SLOW).

1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. Re: Coin Grading Facts
Interesting breakdown. I would like to know the exact number of graders on hand on a daily basis.

Re: Coin Grading Facts
It’s Only a Buck or Two……..
:eureka:
ECONOMY & MODERN TIER…..+$1 / Coin
230,770 Coins/Mo. X 40%A = 92,308 Coins @ +$1 / Coin X 12 MO. = $1,107,696/Yr.
MODERN SPECIAL TIER1…..+$2 / Coin
230,770 Coins/Mo. X 60%B = 138,462 Coins @ +$2 / Coin X 12 Mo. = $3,323,088/Yr.
Additional income from JUST THESE TWO SERVICES: $4,430,784.00
1. Most Common Service?.....60% Low?
A. & B. I did not include the BIG DOLLAR / HIGH VALUE coin submits here. I do not see/believe 230/month of these, which is only 1%, are actually submitted??
